Tullylish Premier Reserves travelled to Annaclone on Monday evening aiming to gain a valuable two points as well as two places in the A.C.P.R Division two table. However this was not to be as Annaclone proved to be tough opposition ón their own turf.
It was the home team who started the brightest and had a goal and a point registered on the scoreboard thanks to a neat point from Paul Burns and a well taken goal from Gary Byrne following a misjudged ‘bounce’ by the Tullylish defence.
Sean Byrne proved to be a thorn in the Tullylish defence all evening an registered his first score of the evening from play and increased the defecit to five points.
Andy Rooney’s high workrate and determination to win break ball resulted in ‘the yellas’ winning valuable possesion around the midfield area. This resulted in Chris Mcgovern registering the first score ón the board for the vistors after a frustrating 20 mins. It was McGovern again who registerd a further score for the visitors in their attempt to narrow the defecit. Squandered chances from play and bad decision making with free-kicks reduced the chance for the visitors of clawing the defecit back.
A long range effort from John Fegan added to the Annaclone tally and left the half-time score- Annaclone 1.05 Tullylish 0.02
To their credit, Tullylish battled hard in the second half and won valuable ball in the midfield through Brian Thompson and Diarmuid O’Kane. Tullylish registered scores through Fionntan O’Dowd, Eamonn Morgan and John McKiverghan. However, undisciplined tackling allowed Annaclone to respond with two further points from frees.
Despite outscoring their opponents in the second half, it was a case of ‘too little too late’ for the visitors who can take positives out of a gutsy second half performance inspired by a fine display from Mark McEvoy at full back.
