Tullylish 3.08
Clann na Banna 0.04
Tullylish Premier Reserves recorded their third successive win at the expense of local rivals Clann na Banna at a blustery Pairc na nÓg on Sunday.
It was the home side who took early advantage of the gale force wind and used it’s assistance to register early and frequent scores, putting the Clann na Banna rearguard under extreme pressure from the off set. Ryan McAnearney, Chris Magee and team captain Justin McCartan all registered scores during the opening period of dominance from ‘the yellas’.
Continuous support play and disciplined tackling from the impressive Mick Feeney, and Sean McDermott kept the Clann na Banna threat at bay.
It wasn’t until the tenth minute that Clann na Banna’s Conor McCusker registered their first and only point of the half.
The physical presence of Davy Corbett and Diarmuid O’Kane in the middle third allowed Tullylish to gain valuable possession in this area and persistently attack the Clann na Banna defence and increase the deficit by thirteen points at the half time whistle. During this fifteen minute onslaught, the home side scored three goals in quick succession through Justin McCartan, Seamus O’Hare and Davy Corbett, respectively. The impressive O’Hare and Kevin Murphy registered a point each following great support play from John Feeney, Emmett Scullion and Kevin McCartan which left the half time score- Tullylish 3.05 Clann na Banna 0.01.
Despite playing against the wind Tullylish continued to dominate the game and registered further scores through the industrious Andy Rooney and Kevin Murphy.
To their credit Clann na Banna registered three scores through free-taker Paudie Bradley but will wonder how they constantly squandered scoring opportunities despite their strong wind advantage. During a short period of dominance, Clann na Banna penetrated the Tullylish rearguard with ‘high-ball’ which was impressively marshalled by McManus and Feeney.
As the full time whistle beckoned, Diarmuid O’Kane engineered a fine solo effort to round off an excellent performance for the team and reward the management trio of Eamonn Connolly, Kevin Murphy and Sean Fegan with another valuable two points.
